When disaster strikes, most people want to help but do not know where to begin. CRI Responder Training equips you to step into crisis with courage, compassion, and practical skill.

You will learn how to care for people in shock, grief, loss, and urgent need, whether you are helping a neighbor after a car accident, serving a family after a house fire, or deploying with CRI after a hurricane, earthquake, flood, or war.

What makes CRI different is that our training comes from real-world deployment experience. We combine practical field readiness with emotional and spiritual care, so Responders can bring more than supplies. They bring presence, prayer, stability, and the hope of Jesus.

What is CRI Responder Training:

Learn Core Emotional and Spiritual First-Aid Skills

Whether you're helping someone across the street or deploying across the country, you’ll first be equipped with practical emotional and spiritual first-aid tools for real crisis moments. You’ll learn how to stay grounded, bring calm into the chaos, and confidently respond when someone is hurting or overwhelmed.

Online Responder Training Library

Once you complete your core responder training, you’ll gain access to CRI’s Online Responder Training Library. This growing library gives you hands-on practical training for the work responders actually do in the field, including:

- Muck outs after flooding

- Ash outs after fires

- Running a Point of Distribution (POD)

- Deployment operations

- Safety and field procedures

Receive Disaster-Specific Training Before Deployment

Once applying and being approved for deployment, you’ll receive training specific to the type of response you are stepping into because every deployment is different. This helps prepare you for the environment, needs, safety concerns, and response methods unique to that disaster so you arrive informed, prepared, and ready to serve well.

What is the process?

1. Register for CRI Responder Training (live or online)

2. Complete the core training

3. Access the online training library

4. Use the skills you learn everyday

5. Apply for deployments

6. Receive disaster specific training

Do I need experience?

No prior experience is required. This training is designed for both new and experienced responders. We will equip you with practical tools, guidance, and training to help you confidently care for people in crisis situations.

How old do I need to be?

We train anyone age 12 and up (minors need to apply and attend with a parent or legal guardian). However, age requirements may vary depending on the type of service opportunity or deployment. Some local serving opportunities may allow younger volunteers with supervision, while deployments typically require adults 18+. Specific requirements will be shared during the application process.

Is this online or in-person?

This depends on the training option you choose. If you attend a live training, you will also receive access to the online Responder Training Library. If you choose the online training option, you will first complete the online core responder training before gaining access to the Responder Training Library.

Do I have to deploy?

No. Completing responder training does not obligate you to deploy. You can complete the training simply to be better equipped to help others in everyday crisis situations. At the same time, deployment can be an incredible experience. It is an opportunity to step outside of your normal environment, connect with the global CRI family, and use your skills in larger scale crisis situations where help is urgently needed.

What happens after training?

After completing your core responder training, you will gain access to the Responder Training Library where you can continue building practical skills. You may also have opportunities to serve with us on projects and, if desired, apply for future trips and disaster deployments.

Yes. CRI is a Christian organization and our training is rooted in compassion, servant leadership, and caring for people emotionally, spiritually, and practically during crisis. At the same time, we serve people from all backgrounds with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
